The Oracle Advisory

The Work

What actually happens, described plainly.

The shape

A retainer. Standing access rather than a package of sessions.

Regular conversation.

A rhythm we set together. For most people it settles at twice a month, ninety minutes, and it flexes when something large is happening.

Access between them.

When a decision is actually in front of you, you reach me. Not a queue, not a ticket. This is the part clients tell me matters most, and it is the part a package of sessions structurally cannot give you.

A defined arc.

We begin with an initial term long enough for the work to become real. The first stretch is largely listening; the movement comes after. It continues by mutual choice, and many engagements run for years.

What a conversation is

It is not coaching in the sense of goals, accountability and homework. There is no worksheet.

It is closer to counsel. You bring what is genuinely in front of you — the decision, the person, the pressure, the thing you have not said out loud to anyone. I listen for what is underneath it, which is rarely what you brought. Then we stay with it until it is clear.

Most clients find that the pace of the conversation is itself the intervention. It is slower than the room they came from. That is deliberate.

The ground it tends to cover

Vision and alignment

Whether the enterprise you are building is one you would still choose if no one were watching. Whether your stated purpose and your operating purpose are the same purpose. Most leaders find a gap here, and most of that gap was inherited rather than chosen.

How you are heard

Not communication technique — the prior question. What state you are in when you speak, and what people receive beneath your words. Teams do not respond to the message. They respond to where the message came from.

Decision under weight

Building the internal room where a consequential choice can be made from clarity rather than urgency — and learning to recognise, while it is happening, which one is happening.

These are not modules and they do not run in order. They are simply the ground the work tends to cross.

What changes

Clients report it in roughly this sequence.

The reactivity drops first — usually within weeks, and usually noticed by the people around them before it is noticed by them.

Then decisions begin to hold. Fewer get revisited. The quiet re-litigation that consumes so much of a leadership calendar simply stops.

Then the room changes. People bring things earlier. Candour rises. This is the change that eventually shows up in retention, and in the quality of what reaches you at all.

And somewhere in there, most people tell me the work stopped feeling like an expenditure of self.

The practical terms

Fee

Discussed in the first conversation. It depends on scope, and on whether the engagement is personal or held by an organisation.

Confidentiality

Absolute and mutual. Nothing said in this work appears anywhere — including in my own writing — without your explicit permission.

Where

Immaterial. Most engagements run by video; some in person.

How it begins

One conversation, forty-five minutes, at no cost.
